What is Kintsugi repair?

Kintsugi (Kin = gold; tsugi = To join) is a specialist method of ceramic repair originating in Japan, wherein precious metals are used to highlight break lines. Most commonly completed in 24kt gold, there are many finishes often used to create strong and resilient break patterns. Closely associated with the supporting philosophy of wabi-sabi, emphasis in kintsugi repair is on the beauty of age, usefulness and irregularity.

Bringing together that which is broken can create something stronger and more beautiful than before.

About The Salvage Company

The Salvage Company is London’s only conservator-run restoration studio specialising in kintsugi repair.

Our studio hosts informative workshops centered around Endangered crafts, with a mission to raise awareness and foster appreciation for traditional decorative arts.
